The position requires a minimum commitment of 48 hours within a six-week scheduling period, including one weekend per month and rotating holidays. Hours per scheduled day vary based on department needs. Assist with seeing patients at the outpatient clinic onsite, facilitate breastfeeding classes at least three times a year, and support weekly community groups as needed.

Interact effectively with patients, significant others, and health team members while maintaining ANA standards. Consult with nursing, medical staff, and other disciplines to improve breastfeeding patient care. Teach and demonstrate specific nursing care techniques related to breastfeeding.

Integrate research findings into practice using the best available evidence to guide decisions. Develop plans focused on outcomes and care delivery, considering safety, effectiveness, and cost. Participate in evaluating and enhancing nursing care for breastfeeding patients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois
  • CPR - Basic Life Support via American Heart Association
  • Certification by the International Board of Lactation Consultants (IBCLC)
  • Current experience within past five years or new nursing graduate within past two years
  • One year experience as a lactation consultant RN (preferred)
  • NRP certification (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Participate and assist in evaluating and improving nursing care of breast-feeding patients
  • Consult with nursing, medical staff and other disciplines
  • Teach and demonstrate specific nursing care techniques related to the breast-feeding patient
  • Assist in the development of nursing care procedures for the breast-feeding patient
  • Collect comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation
  • Analyze assessment data to determine the diagnosis or issues
  • Develop a plan that prescribes strategies to attain expected outcomes
  • Implement the identified plan and employ education strategies to promote health
