Lactation Consultants are responsible for the direct provision of effective and comprehensive nursing care to patients and their families across the Maternal-Child Units. The Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is an expert in the management of the breastfeeding mother-baby dyad. They are a coach, teacher, and lactation expert.

As consultants, they work collaboratively with the Providers and Nursing care teams to develop feeding plans for a range of infants from newborn to the complex neonate. We're the experienced and caring team Queens families count on for successful outcomes. Mothers and babies start their journey here with expert nurses at their side.

Requirements

  • IBCLC Certification training course
  • Certification by IBLCE (International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners)
  • Experience as a Lactation Consultant or Specialist
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Current New York State License as a Registered Nurse
  • Excellent communication skills, leadership, and teaching potential

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct provision of effective and comprehensive nursing care to patients and their families across the Maternal-Child Units
  • Manage the breastfeeding mother-baby dyad as an expert
  • Act as a coach, teacher, and lactation expert
  • Work collaboratively with Providers and Nursing care teams
  • Develop feeding plans for infants from newborn to the complex neonate
  • Support all phases of ante- through postpartum care
