About this role

The Registered Midwife at Maternity Services, Royal Hobart Hospital strengthens health outcomes through the provision of safe quality, clinically appropriate midwifery care in partnership with women, their families and other health professionals. RHH is the tertiary referral centre for Tasmania with around 2000 births each year. This role supports comprehensive maternity services.

Consolidate knowledge across antenatal clinic, antenatal inpatient cares, pregnancy assessment, labour and birth, inpatient postnatal care, community based postnatal care and lactation services. The graduate program provides structured opportunities to apply midwifery principles in these areas. Daily work focuses on direct patient care delivery.

Work within and learn from a dynamic multidisciplinary team passionate about supporting early career midwives. The team environment fosters effective collaboration and shared passion for maternity care. Sound interpersonal skills enable seamless functioning in this setting.

This fixed term graduate position offers professional development through evidence-based practice and continuous quality improvement. Access client education and ongoing training aligns with ANMC National Competency Standards. Multiple full time or part time shift opportunities up to 76 hours per fortnight commence September 2026.

Requirements

  • Current knowledge of and ability to apply midwifery principles, procedures and practices in line with ANMC National Competency Standards for the Registered Midwife
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills including written skills to function effectively in a multidisciplinary team
  • Knowledge of continuous quality improvement and application of evidence-based practice
  • Ability to undertake client education together with commitment to ongoing professional development

Responsibilities

  • Strengthen health outcomes through provision of safe quality, clinically appropriate midwifery care
  • Provide care in partnership with women, their families and other health professionals
  • Deliver services across antenatal clinic and antenatal inpatient cares
  • Conduct pregnancy assessments
  • Support labour and birth
  • Offer inpatient postnatal care
  • Provide community based postnatal care
  • Assist with lactation services
