About this role
Working under provider’s direction provides general nursing functions for the practice. Records vital signs, immunizations, provides initial patient assessment, obtains concise patient history. Provides various clinical information and support to providers.
Processes and posts information to patient’s chart. Educates patients and families regarding medications, treatments, care, and referrals. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.
Prepares patient for examination including patient assessment, histories, vital signs, medication reconciliation, and routine testing. Documents pertinent information in chart and maintains documentation standards. Reviews chart prior to appointment to assure requests and documents are in place.

Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
- Successful completion of an accredited medical assistant program or CMA/CCMA/RMA certified or meet eligibility requirements to take CMA/RMA within 6 months of hire
- BLS certification required within 90 days of hire/transfer
- Knowledge of clinical skills as required with Medical Assistant Certification/Registration
- Effective problem-solving and prioritization skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to process information in a confidential manner
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, doctors and other staff
- EMR experience highly desirable and ability to input and retrieve data from computerized systems
Responsibilities
- Record vital signs, immunizations, and provide initial patient assessment
- Obtain concise patient history and provide clinical information and support to providers
- Prepare patient for examination including patient assessment, histories, vital signs, medication reconciliation, and routine testing
- Document pertinent information in chart
- Maintain documentation standards and review chart prior to appointment
- Administer treatments as requested by the physician
- Obtain specimens for urine testing, phlebotomy, etc.
- Educate patients and families regarding medications, treatments, care, and referrals
