Join our maternity team to make a real difference to the experience of new parents, their babies and their families and whānau. This casual position offers current NZ Bachelor of Midwifery Programme students a unique opportunity to develop skills while studying. Work around your timetable in the Maternity Ward at Dunedin Hospital.

As a Maternity Care Assistant, support midwives by assisting with patient care under supervision. Handle basic baby care such as bathing, changing nappies, and settling babies. Clean equipment, prepare birthing rooms, assist women with showering and meal times, and perform clerical duties for smooth department operations.

At the Queen Mary Maternity Unit, care for fabulous women and families from a diverse region alongside kind, compassionate midwives and health professionals. Birth around 1,800 babies each year while working closely with midwifery and medical schools. Te Whatu Ora Southern provides services to 350,000 people across the largest geographical coverage in New Zealand.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a New Zealand Bachelor of Midwifery programme
  • Dynamic, friendly, and able to demonstrate a high level of initiative
  • Committed to high standards of practice
  • Well organised with excellent communication skills
  • Motivated, flexible, and enthusiastic
  • Experience working with people in a caring capacity advantageous

Responsibilities

  • Support midwives by assisting with patient care under supervision
  • Clean equipment and prepare birthing rooms
  • Provide basic baby care including bathing, changing nappies, and settling babies
  • Assist women with showering and at meal times
  • Perform clerical duties and other general duties to assist with smooth department running
