About this role

As the certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), you will be the clinical expert in human lactation and breastfeeding. You provide specialized lactation services in hospital and clinic settings. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating lactation needs for prenatal and postnatal mothers and infants, reporting to the Nurse Manager.

Conduct clinical assessments using current lactation theories and research to develop evidence-based feeding plans addressing individual issues. Identify lactation needs and establish educational requirements for mothers and infants. Deliver breastfeeding education and support to inpatient and outpatient prenatal and postnatal patients.

Coordinate care delivery for pregnant and breastfeeding patients while facilitating communication and collaboration among healthcare providers. Schedule consultations, coordinate referrals, and assist with breastpump resources and orders. Provide follow-up via telephone, consultations, letters, and appointments.

Requirements

  • Current Oklahoma RN licensure or multistate licensure
  • Current BLS
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)

Responsibilities

  • Make clinical assessments and use current lactation theories and research to develop evidence-based feeding plans that address individual feeding issues
  • Identify current and potential lactation needs of the prenatal and postnatal mother and infant
  • Establish the lactation educational needs of the prenatal and postnatal mother and infant
  • Give breastfeeding education and support to outpatient and inpatient, prenatal and postnatal mothers and infants
  • Provide follow-up to care via telephone calls, consultations, letters, and scheduling appointments
  • Coordinate the delivery of care to the pregnant and breastfeeding patients
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between healthcare providers
  • Schedule consultations and coordinate referrals
