St Vincent’s Health Australia, the largest not-for-profit health provider, seeks a Midwifery Unit Manager for Whelan Ward at The Mater hospital. This permanent full-time role oversees 34 inpatient beds for postnatal and antenatal patients. Lead planning, implementing, coordinating, evaluating patient care and staff performance management.

In consultation with the ADCS, create monthly ward rosters and allocate staffing to ensure patient and staff safety, skill mix, and budget WHPPD compliance. Coordinate all aspects of ward operations with a focus on best practice standards. Utilise philosophy, mission, and values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries.

Collaborate with Maternity Management Team, Assistant Director of Clinical Services – Acute and Cancer Services, and Executive to improve Mater services. Base at Sydney’s premier private hospital with Obstetrics core specialty and excellent transport access. Align all practices with National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Midwifery
  • Current AHPRA Registration
  • Demonstrate clinical knowledge in Midwifery with commitment to professional development and clinical teaching
  • Willingness to work with Maternity Management Team, Assistant Director of Clinical Services – Acute and Cancer Services, and Executive
  • Optimistic attitude and passion for success in improving services
  • All practices consistent with National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and lead all aspects of patient care in 34-bed postnatal ward
  • Manage staff performance, allocation, and monthly roster creation in consultation with ADCS
  • Allocate staffing appropriately considering staff numbers, patient and staff safety, skill mix, and WHPPD budget
  • Ensure satisfaction of all stakeholders utilising best practice standards
  • Align ward operations with philosophy, mission, and values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries
  • Oversee care for postnatal and antenatal patients in Maternity Department
