About this role
We are one of the largest maternity units in the Midlands, delivering approximately 8,400 births annually to a diverse population. Our dedicated team includes over 400 midwives, 34 consultants, and multi-professional staff of anaesthetists, sonographers, and neonatal experts. The post holder will lead the multi-disciplinary governance team, ensuring effective implementation of clinical governance.
Lead on monitoring standards of clinical governance, clinical effectiveness, and patient safety activity in liaison with multidisciplinary professionals. Analyse national standards and develop action plans with knowledge of quality improvement and assurance principles. Close working and liaison across the service, division, and trust supports teams in a busy multi-site maternity service.
As an exceptional leader with in-depth knowledge of governance, assurance mechanisms, and national standards, inspire confidence and innovation among the workforce. Provide statutory and regulatory assurance regarding quality and safety of care delivered. Demonstrate good quality governance understood and practised across all professional groups within maternity services.

Requirements
- Understand principles of safety, quality assurance, and governance framework pertinent to maternity services
- Ability to analyse national standards and develop action plans
- Knowledge of relevant quality improvement and assurance principles
- In-depth knowledge of governance, assurance mechanisms, and national standards
- Exceptional leader able to inspire confidence and innovation
- Passion for governance and gold standard care within maternity services
- Provide statutory and regulatory assurance regarding quality and safety of care
Responsibilities
- Lead the multi-disciplinary governance team to implement comprehensive clinical governance approach
- Monitor standards of clinical governance, clinical effectiveness, and patient safety activity with direct line management across all sites
- Work closely with Head of Midwifery, Clinical Delivery Group triumvirate, and Trust Governance Team
- Work in partnership with senior obstetric and midwifery team to drive maternity leadership, operational, governance, and strategic agendas
- Provide oversight of strategic and operational delivery of quality assurance in clinical governance focused on safety
- Analyse national standards and develop action plans for compliance in clinical audit, effectiveness, risk management, education, training, and research
- Ensure triangulation of information and intelligence across service, division, and trust
