About this role

National Midwifery Programme is mature with pillars of education, regulation, and agency in place. UNFPA advocates for deploying midwives in public sector facilities at primary, secondary, and tertiary levels for quality maternity, SRHR services, and HGBV response. With 5000 midwives produced yearly, Bangladesh can reduce MMR to 70 by 2030 per SDG 3.

UNFPA and MoHFW introduced clinical mentorship for in-service midwives on Normal Vaginal Delivery via District Public Health Nurses. Support continues for midwifery education through national quality assessment by international organizations. Countries like Nepal, India, and Egypt engage via South-South Cooperation.

Norway shows interest in improving midwifery education and expanding midwifery-led SRHR services, potentially leading to funding. Consultant works under Chief-of-Health at UNFPA Bangladesh CO, providing coordination and technical support. Accelerate initiatives to show tangible results by end of 2026.

UNFPA leads for wanted pregnancies, safe childbirths, and fulfilled youth potential. Strategic plan 2022-2025 targets ending maternal deaths, unmet family planning, and GBV. Build forward better, addressing Covid-19 impacts on SRHR.
