The Perinatal Mental Health Clinician provides specialist mental health assessment and treatment to women experiencing moderate to severe symptoms during pregnancy or up to 12 months postnatal. Services are free, confidential, and offered face-to-face or via telehealth at clinics, hospitals, homes, or community centres.
Serve as the first point of contact for enquiries on management advice or referrals to the Perinatal Mental Health Team. Review and triage referrals, prioritising allocation of assessment appointments by patient need. Coordinate care for referred women in collaboration with the Perinatal Psychiatrist and team members.
Work as a senior member of the multidisciplinary team within Adult Community Mental Health Services, alongside Consultant Psychiatrist, Registrar/Career Medical Officer, Registered Nurses, and Allied Health Professionals including Social Workers and Occupational Therapists. Requirements
- Registered Nurse or Allied Health Professional background (Social Worker or Occupational Therapist)
- Experience as a senior clinician in perinatal or adult community mental health services
- Ability to conduct specialist mental health assessments for perinatal disorders
- Skills in reviewing, triaging, and prioritising referrals based on patient need
- Proficiency in coordinating multidisciplinary care with psychiatrists and team members
- Knowledge of evidence-based practices for antenatal and postnatal mental health support
Responsibilities
- Provide specialist care to women, infants, and families at risk of or experiencing moderate to severe perinatal mental health disorders
- Act as identified first point of contact for receipt of enquiries regarding management advice or referral to the team
- Review and triage referrals received and prioritise allocation of assessment appointments according to patient need
- Coordinate the care of women referred for assessment and treatment in collaboration with the Perinatal Psychiatrist and PMHS
- Deliver free and confidential specialist mental health assessment and treatment plans during antenatal and postnatal periods
- Offer face-to-face appointments at clinics, hospitals, community health centres, and home visits
- Provide telehealth appointments as an option
