About this role

The Matilda Centre for Research in Mental Health and Substance Use seeks a Senior Research Psychologist for a part-time (0.4-0.6 FTE) 12-month fixed-term role. Assist with development and implementation of two clinical trials focused on alcohol use and anxiety in postpartum mothers and prevention of intimate partner and sexual violence in young people. The Centre synergises world-leading researchers, clinicians, lived experience, and community to trial innovative programs.

Work 14-21 hours per week developing and adapting therapeutic content, primarily audio-based, alongside digital interactive worksheets for postpartum mothers with alcohol and anxiety concerns. Implement and deliver tailored psychological programs, provide clinical support calls, diagnostic assessments, and contribute to risk management strategies. Optimise client care through close collaboration with colleagues.

Join two project teams with Chief Investigators, clinical psychologists, Senior Research Academics, professional staff, and students. Participate in meetings, provide expert consultation, and conduct day-to-day research tasks like participant recruitment and data management. Liaise with web developers and maintain relationships with trial participants and staff.

Disseminate findings via reports, conference presentations, and peer-reviewed publications. Monitor workplace risks, support health and safety, and ensure compliance with University ethics, guidelines, and Work Health and Safety requirements. Undertake ad-hoc tasks under reporting manager guidance.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology or a relevant field
  • Current Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) registration as a Psychologist and current Working with Children Check (WWCC)
  • Extensive clinical experience working with mothers pre and postpartum (as a perinatal clinician), adolescents, younger children and other family members
  • Proven research experience developing, implementing and running online and face-to-face psychological programs for mental health and/or substance use concerns
  • Experience providing referrals and conducting risk assessments and managing complex mental health conditions
  • Familiarity with digital mental health trends, including app-based interventions and telehealth best practices
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including researchers, clinicians, and content creators
  • Dedication to subject confidentiality and research ethics, particularly with respect to identified subject data of a sensitive nature, with strong levels of empathy

Responsibilities

  • Conduct day-to-day research tasks for two randomised controlled trials, including participant recruitment, data management, and liaising with web developers
  • Foster and maintain effective communication and relationships with trial participants and project staff
  • Disseminate findings through reports, conference presentations, and peer-reviewed publications
  • Monitor workplace risks, support health and safety initiatives, and ensure compliance with ethics, guidelines, and Work Health and Safety requirements
  • Undertake ad-hoc tasks, projects, or activities under the guidance of reporting manager
